It's Over...(Spoiler Free)

I finally finished the trilogy! Hurrah! My brain is tired. Much as I love fantasy novels, I will be taking a much deserved break from them after the monumental effort of finishing His Dark Materials. Whew! Time for chocolate and fluff novels...

You sound relieved, like it was a huge ordeal. Did you not like the series? (By the way, I have only just started the Subtle Knife)

I did like the books...but the trilogy was both intense and long. It took me over a month to finish reading through. I stayed interested in the story, but found it required a lot of effort to read.

My favorite in the series was Golden Compass. I found Subtle Knife lagged for me, but Amber Spyglass was a satisfying conclusion.

I'm re-reading but technically I'm done too. I breezed through them the first time, but for the second time I'm kinda bored. I'm reading a few other books too, including 'The Mermaid's Chair', same author of 'Secret Life of Bees' (which I haven't read yet). It's also boring, but so extremely well written that I'm enjoying it anyway.

It was supposed to be about a woman who has an affair with a monk, I was hoping for another dreamy sappy Thornbirds like story, but I'm almost done and all there's been so far is a boat ride to see pelicans. Sigh....

Just a quick note about the absence of my sister, Sue, from the blog. She just started college full-time in February, hasn't been to school since she graduated from high school 16 years ago. She's also a single mom of a 6 year old and working part-time. She's a little overwhelmed and feels bad that she hasn't been able to participate, but she will join us again when she can, which will probably be after she graduates! :)
