I didn't realize we were already moving on to the Subtle Knife. Has everyone had enough of the Golden Compass then? Have we said it all? I guess we've all had our two cents in anyway.
Here are my final thoughts on the Golden Compass: Lyra does seem young for her age. Really immature. She seems to be about 8, not 11. But having already read through the rest of the series, I think she does mature a lot.
I think the witches are super cool. I like how their daemons can go away from them and act as messengers. It kind of reminds me of the way that witches and wizards use their patronus in Harry Potter. It is also very cool how they can fly using Cloud Pine and how they never feel cold.
So unless anyone has anything else to add... On to the Subtle Knife?
Oh dear - I wasn't trying to pressure anyone to move on. I am willing to still discuss Golden Compass, but I wanted to continue on in the trilogy too. I'm interested in how Compass fits into the rest of the series and I was just curious as to how far anyone else was reading.
Well, I am ashamed of my lack of diligence but I have just renewed the Golden compass for the second time. I am more than halfway through it and I am thoroughly enjoying it. But all I can say in my defence is that I can barely keep my eyes open at night to read. However, I hope to have it finished by Wed, because I leave for Africa for three weeks. So... you will have to plow on without me. I have not read any of your previous comments so as not to spoil the story.
Enjoy your reading...in the words of someone famous.... I'LL BE BACK! :-)
I've already read them, but I'll do a quick second read to refresh. I didn't know we were reading the whole trilogy either, but am up for it! I can't remember what was in the second and what was in the third now, so another reason I should refresh. One comment I will make. The universe they go to that has the inhabitants that evolved wheels, very C.S.Lewis, it was creepy, I loved it!
